Middle Backend Developer for Unity Gaming Platform

About the Project

A cross-platform multiplayer casual gaming hub — one app, 8 games, Android, iOS, and web. Think clean, satisfying, production-level mobile game feel.

The platform is being developed as an MVP with a long-term vision of becoming an enterprise-grade gaming ecosystem capable of supporting 1M+ users.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services for the gaming platform.
• Build secure and scalable APIs for Unity, WebGL, and Backoffice applications.
• Participate in defining the backend architecture and selecting the most appropriate technology stack.
• Evaluate different backend technologies (such as ASP.NET Core and Node.js) and recommend the best solution based on scalability, maintainability, performance, development speed, and long-term business goals.
• Design backend services that can scale from an MVP to a platform supporting 1M+ users.
• Implement authentication, authorization, user management, and role-based access.
• Design and develop services for player profiles, game sessions, achievements, rewards, leaderboards, analytics, and game configuration.
• Ensure secure server-side validation of game data and protection against client-side manipulation.
• Design caching, messaging, asynchronous processing, and background services.
• Integrate external services such as analytics, notifications, payments, and third-party APIs.
• Produce clean, maintainable, well-documented code.
• Perform code reviews and mentor other backend developers.
• Work closely with Unity developers, Frontend developers, QA, DevOps, and Product Management.

Required Experience

• 2+ years of commercial backend development experience.
• Experience developing backend services for Unity games.
• Strong hands-on experience with C# / ASP.NET Core/ Node.js.
• Practical experience with Node.js and modern backend development.
• Ability to compare different backend technologies and recommend the most appropriate solution for the project.
• Experience designing scalable backend systems.
• Experience building or designing systems capable of supporting 1M+ users or applications with similar scalability requirements.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, high-load applications, caching strategies, and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience designing REST APIs.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and/or MS SQL Server.
• Experience with Redis.
• Experience with RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, Kafka, or similar messaging technologies.
• Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
• Experience with Azure and/or AWS.
• Strong knowledge of authentication, authorization, JWT, OAuth2, and RBAC.
• Experience implementing monitoring, logging, tracing, and production diagnostics.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and spoken English.

Nice to Have

• Experience with WebGL applications.
• Experience with SignalR, WebSockets, or real-time communication.
• Experience implementing leaderboards, achievements, rewards, player progression, or game economy.
• Experience with anti-cheat or fraud prevention.
• Experience with Kubernetes.
• Experience with event-driven architecture.
